Symptoms, Diagnostic Tools and Treatment for Lung Cancer
This is a devastating cancer capable of robbing its millions of victims of the ability to breathe. Yet, if you know what the symptoms and signs of this disease are, then you won’t be one a statistic any longer. This is a difficult disease where the patient has trouble breathing and death can occur, unfortunately today we are seeing it in the millions. This affliction is lung cancer. How do we describe lung cancer? In reality, the disease presents as catastrophic damage to the lungs caused by the rapid, unrestrained reproduction and spread of cancer cells. When one gets lung cancer the healthy cells die out and abnormal cells take over, the lungs are then destroyed by the abnormal cells which have turned to tumor growth by this time. You can have lung cancer signs that present as cold symptoms.
There are actually two types of lung cancer today that are being diagnosed. Lung cancer cases can be broken into two major categories; non small, accounts for about 80% of diagnosis, and small cell, the other 20%. Without treatment, the disease will spread throughout your body to other organs such as your brain, liver, bones and lymph nodes.
A point to consider is that smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer. (close to 80%)However, this isn’t always true. Exposure to carcinogens and toxic gases, or other environmental causes, can also lead to cancer. Lung Cancer will spread to the brain if not treated or caught early enough and can present as a migraine headache.
A Look At Small Cell Symptoms – If someone is diagnosed with small cell cancer, what are the symptoms of this cancer disease type? Some of the symptoms of the disease include: incessant coughing that won’t go away, worsening of wheezing, no appetite, back pain for no reason, a swollen face, and sputum changing color and amount.
The most important factor in your survival will be the early detection of your lung cancer, diagnostic tools are effective in this fight. Your diagnosis will be comfirmed by tests your doctor will perform. What are some of the procedures that I can expect during this process?
The procedure will be as such so that tissues can be extracted for further studies, CT two-dimensional x-rays, MRSs, PET scans, x-rays of your lung cavity and biopsies.
A Look at Lung Cancer Treatment – There are all kinds of treatments for lung cancer including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Depending on how advanced your lung cancer is will determine the method of treatment that’s going to be the most effective for you. It will all depend on your current state of health, how advanced the disease is, and if it’s spread.
